I know you're so jealous.

I am going to show you something today that you will be so jealous of. You won't be able to get it out of your mind and will wonder how you can get it into your own home so your jealousy can be contained and you will once again be able to sleep at night.
Behold, I present unto you...

Our kitchen floors.

Dark blue, industrial carpet. I know! You can hardly contain yourself!!

Here, Sammy demonstrates the (almost) daily vacuuming that it requires.
If you are looking for flooring for your kitchen and your criteria is never to have to mop and never having a clean floor, this little gem is for you. Once, shortly after moving in, a dropped a new jar of peanut butter that shattered and spread it contents across this carpeted mess. It was a joy to clean. Everyone should have carpet in their kitchen. Especially if they have kids or tend to drop jars like I do.

As devastating as it is, we are planning on replacing it. We have been planning on it since the day we moved in. Shocking, I know! What to do? It changes on a daily basis. First I thought tile, but I don't want to clean grout. Then laminate tiles. Then laminate. Then dream land of installing hardwood to match the vintage hardwood currently covered in almost white carpet. Then vinyl. Then checkerboard vinyl tiles.

I think I have to come to the decision that I don't want to think about it anymore and just get it done preferably by a professional. I don't want anything to do with it. No DIY here. I tend to have too many projects unfinished to take on this one.

Suggestions?? Comments?? Encouragement?? All welcomed here.

Hey I like the new stuff in your little shelf above the table! I forgot how much I like your kitchen cabinets. Have you thought about Pergo a la IKEA?

You lucky girl to find a finial at the thrift store. I'll be looking for you to do a post about your purchase and show some before and afters.
As for your kitchen floor, I'm not sure I'd call you all that lucky!?!?!

I really like our laminate flooring. We bought it at Costco and put it in ourselves. (I use "we" very loosely.) And, it must not have been TOO hard 'cause I'm still married.

I also enjoy my tile and have not had any grout issues. I have the best floor cleaner on the planet, though, so that helps.

Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog! I love your blog and I'm bookmarking you...I love a funny girl. lol

Yeah. Dark blue industrial carpet. Hmm. My mom had carpet in her kitchen for years. AND her bathroom! Not sure what she was thinking on that one. I dream of a kitchen with checkerboard tiles on the floor. I love that look! We recently put in laminate because a) it was free and b) it was better than the vinyl c) did I mention it was FREE? Can't wait to see what you go with!

First off I love Mia's room. You have done such a good job, I want to see it for real sometime. The curtains are so stinkin cute, I makes me want to make Mary's room more fun. As for that kitchen carpet, how fun to clean. My mother n' law had it in her kitchen for years (on purpose). I bet pergo wouldn't cost too much. If your like us though, ya don't have money sitting around to spend on flooring. Hey how was Park City? Did you get some good deals?

Yikes! Carpet in a kitchen...almost as bad as in a bathroom! When we moved into our house we had pink and white vinyl. Not a pretty sight!

Thanks for popping by my blog...it's so nice to meet you!!

My vote is for checkerboard vinyl tiles. That wouldn't have to be matched to the current wood floor, and grout is a PAIN to clean.

Love the picture of the little man vacuuming your kitchen!!

I love love love the cork flooring in our playrooms and kitchen - I can't say enough about it - it has held up very well, is warm, very very quiet, soft and easy on the feet - it looks amazing and dropped dishes bounce! instead of breaking - handy? You bet! It is a snap together type of deal - pricey at first, but so so worth it! My only issue is that once the cat thought it would make a great scratching post in one place, but ours is so variegated that you cannot see unless you look closely or I point out the error of his ways - he is an outdoor cat and fully clawed.
